A spontaneous fishing afternoon turns into a family BBQ on the rocks – the first seed of what would become Tulum.
Our Story
From a family fishing afternoon in 2011 to one of the island’s favourite beach bars – this is how Tulum was born on this exact spot.
Our story starts back in 2011. One afternoon my dad and Spiros went fishing at the beach where Tulum is now and they caught a big fish. By luck, my dad had a small portable BBQ in the car – they were so excited that they called the whole family to come there and eat.
After that day we built a small hut on the same beach and started spending our summers there, doing BBQs and parties for family and friends. Later we got a van and turned it into a caravan with a small kitchen. We even had an inside joke when “guests” came: “table number 5 needs salt!” – little did we know that Tulum would be born here a few years later.
We wanted to share this little hidden beach with more people – a spot where you can see the ghost town of Ammochostos in the distance, feel the soft sand and swim in crystal-clear sea. In 2021 we opened Tulum for the first season with just a few seats and a lot of passion.
After that first season I spent four months backpacking in Mexico, the real Tulum and the rest of Central America, collecting ideas and inspiration. With Spiros’ experience in building and our shared vision, we turned those ideas into reality.
Today Tulum is a community – a place where people with the same mindset meet, dance, celebrate and create memories. We’ve hosted some of the island’s most special parties and we’re just getting started.

A van turns into a tiny caravan with kitchen. The beach becomes our second home and the idea of a real beach bar starts to grow.

We open Tulum with just a few seats and a lot of heart, sharing this special spot with the public for the first time.
